Pilot Spaces

Testing new ways of teaching

Pilot Spaces are located in Arkadia-building in Töölö (Lapuankatu 2).

There are three pilot classrooms and one group working area for students, please see details below.

The spaces are available for use from Period 4, 2018 onwards until spring 2019.

Reservations are made through Asio Classroom Booking System, see toolbar on Inside.

The Pilot Spaces were planned for piloting new teaching and learning technologies and testing them in real-life situations.

The spaces were planned in collaboration between IT/AV & Learning Spaces task forces and were strongly supported by Aalto IT.

The BIZ pilot is followed by several other pilots in other schools in Aalto, see more details from Digital Aalto.

Pilot Space E1.24 - Learning in groups

The classroom E1.24 will have

  • fixed furniture to fit 25-30 students
  • 5 tables with screens, each fit 5-7 students
  • 2 movable large touchscreens
  • wireless collaboration
  • power sockets
- Students can work in groups of 5-7 - Presentations can be shared from individual devices to all screens wirelessly - Lectures can be recorded

Pilot Space E1.25 - Record your lectures easily

The classroom E1.25 will have

  • movable furniture to fit 25-30 students
  • 2 screens
  • 2 cameras to both record the lecture and show the audience
  • distant participation made easy
  • wireless collaboration
  • power sockets
- Presentations can be shared from individual devices to all screens wirelessly - Lectures can be recorded - Screen can be divided between four simultaneous presentations, that can be sent from individual devices wirelessly

Valio-hall E3.41

Valio-hall will have:

  • movable furniture to fit 104 students
  • 2 screens
  • 1 wireless microphone
  • wireless presentation equipment
  • speaker’s touchscreen
  • large movable touchscreen that can be used as a digital flapboard
  • cameras to record lectures and visualize documents
  • AV-connection to classrooms E1.24 and E1.25
- Presentations can be shared from individual devices to all screens wirelessly - Screen can be divided between four simultaneous presentations, that can be sent from individual devices wirelessly - Lectures can be recorded - Same presentation to be followed from any of the classrooms E124, E125 or Valio-hall

E1.20 Group working area for students

The area will have:

  • space for student to meet and work together
  • movable and diversive furniture
  • 3 table groups can be separated by curtains
  • 3 screens
- Space to work in groups - Devices can be connected wirelessly to screens
